Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members
It is currently a busy time at the school in the final weeks of second term. Our year 5/6 students have been involved in the illuminate program with other schools in the Northern Midlands. Illuminate requires teams of students to undertake a four-day business development task and present to judges at the end of the week. Our students and staff exhibited considerable growth during a challenging and tiring week. Campbell Town achieved significant success finishing 2nd and 3rd out of 31 participating teams. We also received several other awards.
Our Year 10 students are currently engaged in transition activities with Newstead and Launceston Colleges as well as exploring programs offered in Campbell Town. This is an important time and choices made are vital in setting students up for future successful pathways. Our staff are available to support families and students in understanding options and clarifying choices.
We are currently in the process of securing a new school bus as an upgrade to ensure that our students have safe and reliable transport during excursions. We are hopeful of taking delivery of a new bus in October.
Staff and parents have participated in Parent Teacher Interviews over the past week. We really appreciate the attendance of parents and the opportunity to share learning. Reports will be sent home in the final week of school. Reports no longer contain comments – this applies in all schools. Parents will receive an evidence of learning to provide an illustration about the work being completed by each student.
Being a K-12 school has wonderful advantages. When we had a relief teacher call in sick on Friday, Mrs Hodge left the 7/8's to fill in. Mr Martin saw the opportunity to build a community of learning and took all of the 7/8 students to Prep. A fantastic shared reading experienced ensued with all students gaining enormous benefit and learning from the interactions.
Our school lunch program continues to be an amazing success and we are now serving about 120 lunches to students every week. This is a program that we are committed to supporting in the long term. Our Hands on Learning programs are continuing to develop well with groups of primary and secondary students taking advantage of the significant expertise brought by our staff to practical, hands on learning tasks.
If you have any questions about student learning and progress, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind Regards
Mike

ILLUMINATE COMMUNITY CHALLENGE
Our 5-6 students had the opportunity to participate in the illuminate Community Challenge. Students travelled to Longford Monday to Thursday this week and were joined by Evandale Primary, Longford Primary, Cressy District High, Perth Primary and Bracknell Primary Schools.
Students were pushed to work outside of their comfort zones to think outside the box and to work as a team. They were given the task to identify something missing in the Northern Midlands and work as a team to generate a solution. Their processes included brainstorming ideas, assessing how to market, looking at finances and preparing a pitch to present to the judges.
Our 5-6 student groups came up with the following solutions:
- Pump track
- Upgrades to the Campbell Town Pool
- Increasing engagement to the Campbell Town Show
- Go kart track
Congratulations to our teams who received awards:
- Best Pressure Cooker submission (pump track)
- The Ideation Award (zoom go karts)
- 2nd overall (Campbell Town Pool)
- 3rd overall (zoom go karts)

CAMPBELL TOWN SHOW WOOL HANDLING COMPETITION
On a cold, blustery Campbell Town show day our wool handling team looked great in the new wool handling shirts. We had 4 students participate this year, forming 3 teams. Our first team of Izabella & Zoe did a great job of throwing their fleeces, skirting and working as a team. They hadn’t worked together before, and were thrown up first, so well done girls. Zoe immediately was up again, teaming up with Hanna. This team scored a second last year and again showed teamwork and good communication to get the job done. Dane & Izabella were our last team up and for both it was their first year participating. Great to have some Year 7’s stepping up. Their skills will improve in the years to come. They handled the big fleeces well, both landing good throws. Sadly, we didn’t place this year. Oatlands had honed their belly tossing skills with one team gaining an additional 20 points as both members scored the furthest bucket. That made them very hard to beat.
The students had travelled to Myrtlewood the previous week to meet with the AWI wool trainers, Jack Monks & Petrisse Leckie to learn and improve their skills. Thank you to Madeleine Scott for making the facilities available and providing the sheep. Madeleine also leant us a fleece to practice throwing with. Next year we will have our own wool table at school which will be an asset. Thank you to Royce Walters, at Fraser Bros Wool, in Youngtown, who also leant us another larger fleece and bellies to practice our skills.
A very big thank you to Petrisse, Jack, Locky and AWI for making this event happen and supporting our students to learn wool handling skills.
Congratulations to Hanna, Zoe, Dane and Izabella. Their behaviour and participation was outstanding and I look forward to working with them again next year with our aim to win the Schools Wool Handling trophy.

Earlier this year, the Department for Education, Children and Young People rolled out Safeguarding Training for staff, volunteers, and service providers.
This training was compulsory for everyone as part of our ongoing commitment to safeguard Tasmanian children and young people and prevent them from harm.
The department has recently released additional advanced Safeguarding training modules.
These are optional and are aimed at anyone who volunteers at a DECYP site, external providers, and anyone in the community who wants to learn more about how to keep children and young people safe.
If you’d like to build your knowledge in this space, the modules are available on the department’s Safeguarding page.
Note: If you require additional assistance to access the modules, please take a look at the FAQs about technical support and additional assistance, which are also on the department’s Safeguarding page.
