Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members
This year we decided to focus on connecting our learning goals to exhibition entries in the Campbell Town Show. We produced a large number of high quality entries in categories ranging from cooking to painting and wood craft. We were awarded The Book Cellar Schools Prize as the leading school for exhibits, Eddie Webster won the Joyce Payne Prize for most successful junior exhibiter and Kevin Stagg pretty much took out every major award for his wood and metal craft table. Congratulations to every student who contributed a piece of work to the show. We were also very well represented by students in wool handling. Big thanks to Nic Bowerman for her coordination of our show entries.
Campbell Town proudly hosted seven regional schools this week for the moderation of student work and to share planning and resources. The day was an outstanding success with 170 teachers on our site. Thank you to Erin Unsworth for her outstanding organisation of the day and to all of our EFAs, admin and grounds staff who ensured that the school looked fantastic, meetings were supported and everyone was very well fed!
We are delighted to welcome Richard Reed to our staff. Richard brings extensive expertise in teaching vocational programs in Automotive and Metals. He joins Tom Hodge and Mick Upton as part of our vocational trades teaching teams. We are currently developing a partnership with Hands on Learning to deliver trades based programs from Years 5-10 and will be offering VET certificates and Pre-Vet courses in automotive for Year 9-12 students.
Last week, our student leaders organised a ‘Big Freeze’ challenge with students and staff taking a very cold dunking to raise over $1600.00 to support MND research. Thanks to Ash Lowe and our student leaders for their coordination of this event. We were proudly represented by students in primary and secondary interschool cross countries over the past two weeks. Our students performed exceptionally well. We were especially proud of Sebastian Wheldon who displayed all of the school values and represented us with great distinction.
Our sessions for Parent Teacher in Week 8 are booking out quickly. Students are very welcome to attend these sessions. We place great value on these conversations and look forward to meeting with parents.
Kind Regards
Mike

Prep students have been very busy this term in our literacy time. During our morning block students are involved in explicit whole group teaching, focused teacher groups and also have an opportunity to practice the skills they have been learning in our literacy group rotations. Please enjoy some photos of students practicing their spelling, reading, writing and also letter fluency during our morning routine.

On Friday May 30th the Secondary Student Leaders hosted an Ice Bucket Challenge to raise money for Fight MND. The Ice Bucket Challenge was not only a fun way to cool off but also a way to raise awareness and funds for Fight MND. Our brave teachers and student leaders were drenched in ice-cold water for this fantastic cause!
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a devastating disease and currently, there are more than 2,000 Australians living with MND, with an average life expectancy of just 27 months from diagnosis. Today, two Australians will die from MND, and two more will be diagnosed. Investing in research continues to be our best weapon against the beast to try to find a cure or new treatments, but it’s expensive and takes time.
As a school and community we raised over $1,600.00 that has been donated to Fight MND. Thank you to all of our generous donors and school community for their support. It was definitely a day to remember!

Student Leaders
Our Primary School Leaders have worked tremendously hard through the year, and we would like to take the opportunity to thank them for everything they have done so far in 2024 and that we are looking forward to what is to come. So far this year, our leaders have:
- Supported at Breakfast Club
- Helped out during the after school bus duty
- Placed out play/sports equipment in the Primary area for break times
- Observed their peers displaying the DECYP Values during lunch times and handing out Values Tickets to them
- Participated in the Campbell Town Community ANZAC Day Service
- Hosted our Primary Assembly
- Raised and lowered the school flags each day
Our leaders have also recently started running Daily PE on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday after recess. The Leaders have done a wonderful job at planning their own activities to do with the younger classes and are loving working on their leadership skills.
Term 2 Primary School Leaders’ Fundraiser
Our Leaders have worked closely with Miss Knowles throughout the year and have learnt that Miss Knowles’ Mum and Dad live in a small village in the Solomon Islands called Chubikopi. The Leaders have seen photos of the Kindergarten class in the village and are eager to help out where they can. On Thursday July 4th our leaders will be holding a plain clothes day where they are asking all students K-12 to donate a gold coin in order to raise funds to be able to ship learning resources to the Kindergarten class in Chubikopi. Leaders are currently working on advertising this event, so stay tuned to our school FaceBook page for more information.

On Wednesday 29th May, the Pelvic Pain Foundation came and delivered two sessions to our grade 9/10 girls and boys about pelvic pain, male and female reproductive health, and endometriosis. Students that participated enjoyed that:
“I liked that Ali was very helpful and how she made all of us feel safe and comfortable enough to be open about everything.”
“It was fun and engaging with lots of activities and facts.”
“I learnt what endometriosis is and what impacts it has.”
“I learnt a lot more about periods when I thought I already knew enough.”
Thanks to Ali for delivering an extremely interesting and informative workshop and to Nurse Lou for organising such a useful program.

We had a fantastic day on Tuesday, May 14th, for our 2024 Cross Country Carnival! This year's event was filled with excitement, energy, and some new additions that made the day even more memorable.
One of the highlights was our brand new "Best Dressed in House Colours" competition. Students came dressed in their most creative and spirited outfits, showcasing their house pride in a fun and colorful way. It was wonderful to see everyone participating and supporting their houses with such enthusiasm!
Another standout feature of the day was the incredible participation from students across the whole school. We loved seeing all of our students out running their best races and aiming for personal bests (PB's). The energy and determination displayed by everyone was fantastic.
A special congratulations goes to Kaneeda, Thomas and Ava for breaking records this year! Your hard work and dedication have paid off, and you have set a high standard for future events.
Here's to another great year of fitness and fun at our Cross Country Carnival!
