Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members
Staff have been working hard, focused on continuous improvement in teaching and learning, particularly lifting student outcomes in reading and literacy. Staff have undertaken extensive professional learning in the science of reading and evidence based instructional practices. We have embedded our Macqlit reading intervention program to ensure that no student is left behind and introduced scaffolded literacy approaches to teaching writing.
Promoting school attendance continues to be a priority for all Australian schools. Our Student Support and Wellbeing Team meet regularly to monitor student attendance and to offer supports to students and families. We also know that student’s feeling engaged with their learning is closely linked to attendance rates. We have introduced school camp and outdoor education programs to build connection, courage and resilience. These programs have been highly successful and we will continue to seek similar opportunities.
We know that student success flows from teachers working together with aspiration about learning outcomes. We have revised our secondary structure to ensure that our classes have two teachers on core Australian Curriculum subjects to maximise student learning.
We have held a number of exciting events including our swimming carnival, participation in interschool carnivals and open days showcasing the work of our junior school students. A real highlight was our participation in the launch of the Tasmania Devils AFL team last month.
During the holidays, our students will be participating in the community ANZAC Day Service, we strongly encourage you to join us. Next term, we look forward to entries in the Campbell Town Show, developing aspirational learning activities like ‘Write a Book in a Day’ and a continued focus on student growth and wellbeing.
Wishing all of our students a safe and happy holiday.
Kind Regards
Mike
As part of our Scaffolded Literacy and HASS learning we have been sharing the book Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge. As a class we have talked about special old people in our lives. We have drawn them and discussed how we like to spend time with them. Today we had a special visitor to Prep, Mrs Crosswell. She bought along many special items from the past to share with us including money, photos, a very old lunch box and a dress that she wore as a baby. The Prep students were excited to discover that she taught Mrs Langiu when she was younger and many of their parents too! An important part of the HASS curriculum is posing questions, so together we came up with some questions for Mrs Crosswell. Some of our questions included:
How old are you?
What are your hobbies?
Where do you like to go for picnics?
Do you have grandchildren?
Do you like fishing?
Thank you for your visit, Mrs Crosswell.

4-6 Camp
On Tuesday the 26th of March, the Grade 4, 5 and 6 students gathered on the tiger turf before going on to the Callows Coaches bus. Our first stop was Oatlands, followed by the Richmond Bridge. The teachers handed us clipboards, pencils and papers and we were asked to do a sketch of the Richmond Bridge. We had both our recess and lunch there. We left not long after lunch and arrived in Richmond where we were split into two groups to explore the Maze and Gaol. After an hour of driving once we completed our activities, we arrived at our camp, settled in, and had dinner. We were spoilt for choices with our dinner with Mac n Cheese, Lasagne, Chicken Burgers, Butter Chicken and Pasta Bolognese. We got to go to the beach and found some shells and had a sandcastle competition. After dinner, we had a dance competition, and we even got a chocolate egg for the best dancers. We then had lights off at 9.00pm and went to sleep.
The next day, everyone packed up their rooms and bags and had breakfast before leaving our camp. We all headed to Hobart where we were going to the museum. The museum was very interesting and we learnt lots of fascinating facts about animals and artists. After the museum, Mr Flanagan took the Grade 6’s on another bus to their next activity whilst the Grade 4/5's headed back to school for the end of their camp trip.
We would like to thank all the teachers and staff for their time and effort they put in to making sure camp went smoothly for all of us.

Grade 6 Camp continued…
After we left the museum, on the grade 6 bus, we went to Lea Scout Cabins near Kingston. When we arrived, we split up into our cabins and had a rest for a while. Then we went to the beach and met the Grade 7/8 students. We participated in their art sandcastle and golf ball rolling competitions. Then we got ready for dinner and headed to the restaurant, the Salty Dog in Kingston. We had a lovely meal and all enjoyed each other’s company, including Mr Flanagan’s! When we finished dinner and went back to the cabins, we played spotlight with the secondary students and Mr Martin. Then we headed back to our cabins did our final jobs and then went to sleep.
After waking up the next morning, we packed up our things, tidied our cabins and went to breakfast, where Mr Martin made us egg and bacon rolls. After breakfast, we packed the bus and left for Bounce at Derwent Park. At Bounce there was rock climbing, obstacle courses, soft pillow, dodge ball, trampolines, and more. It was certainly a highlight of the trip and the two hours went very quickly! Once we finished we got back on the bus and headed back to school. We stopped for lunch at Mood Food and had a play on their oval. Then continued on the final part of our journey back to Campbell Town.

11-12 COMMUNITY SPORT AND RECREATION
The Grade 11/12 Community Sport and Recreation class have been out and about investigating what sport and recreation opportunities are available in our local community. They made a mud map of the town with a directory for all sport and recreation activities locally available.
Highlights were Shane’s ‘toucher’ at the bowls club and Isabella teeing off and putting at the golf club on her one good leg!
The class and staff were impressed at what is on offer, so close to home and are inspired to get involved in local sports in the future.
