Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members
We were very excited to partner with AFL Tasmania in a regional launch of the Tasmania Devils AFL team in Campbell Town this week. Our students participated in this event by standing in markings that spelled DEVILS on the football club oval. Camera footage and drone shots looked fantastic and were featured widely in local and national media. AFL Tasmania then hosted skills clinics for our students. Former Richmond forward, Jack Riewoldt was in attendance and posed for photographs with a number of our students. We hope that in years to come, our students will remember their part in the foundation of Tasmania’s AFL team.
The new DECYP values of Connection, Growth, Courage, Respect and Responsibility continue to be taught and celebrated in across the school. Ms Clegg, has led our secondary art students in the construction of a mural depicting the values on a blank wall of our electrical substation. It has brought life and colour to the building and celebrates the values that guide our school community.
Camps for Years 4-10 will occur next week. We have organised first term camps as part of our engagement and wellbeing strategies. The intention is for students to make connections with peers early in the year and to establish resilience, confidence and engagement with school programs.
Reading and literacy continues to be a high priority for our work at Campbell Town. Our teachers are working with a strong focus on implementing the DECYP reading priority by ensuring that instruction for all students is reflective of current research and evidence-based practices. We have extended the Macqlit reading intervention program that we commenced in the high school last year into the primary sector and we are really encouraged by the engagement and progress of the students.
Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 have been participating in NAPLAN assessments during the past week. We have been impressed with the courage, commitment and resilience displayed by all of our students. Our secondary student leaders have participated in the GRIP leadership conference and are developing their understandings about leadership and making a difference in the school community.
We are really encouraged by the improvement in school attendance this year. Our current school attendance has improved significantly on 2023 attendance rates and our attendance is above average for Tasmanian K-12 schools. Thank you to all families for your support in valuing every school day.
Kind Regards
Mike
Our 7/8 Science class has started superbly! Our students are engaged and learning about chemistry and the different reaction types. So far, our students have separated sugar and water, cooked pancakes, separated iron from cereal, grown crystals with salt and made lava lamps. Through these experiments, students have learned how to write scientific reports, draw scientific diagrams and identify chemical and physical reactions.

What an amazing start we have had to the year.
Beautiful weather allowed us to harvest many goodies from the school garden, zucchini, tomatoes and apples which we turned into delicious French Apple Cakes and Chocolate Cake (yes, there is zucchini in chocolate cake).
The School Lunch Project was off to a fantastic start in Week 3, with delicious Butter Chicken and Caribbean Chicken in Week 5.
Students have found their groove and are committed to making the food look appetising for our dine in guests.
The second block of Hospitality is used to further improve cooking skills but to also look at the importance of hygiene and food allergies which have become such a commonality. Students will embark on a culinary journey in the coming weeks where they will bake, cook, and taste foods that are allergen conscious. We will be including gluten and lactose free options when we prepare food for functions, morning teas and other catering occasions.
I am very excited to see student’s skills improve as they gain confidence in the kitchen.
