Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members
Welcome to the 2024 school year. Our start to this year at Campbell Town is the most settled, orderly and productive that I have been a part of in my career in schools. I am very grateful to the staff for the time and effort they have put into preparing classrooms, grounds, learning materials and lessons to enable this outstanding beginning to the year.
The addition of a class in the primary sector has reduced class sizes and increased the support available to students to improve their learning. We have established a new Year 9/10 area in the rooms where the library was previously located and the library has returned to its previous location in the centre of the school.
We are pleased to announce that building on our new Agriculture facility will commence at the end of this month. The building is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year and will support programs in agriculture and food and fibre across all grades.
We are delighted to welcome Ms Halana Knowles to our team as K-6 AST. Halana replaces Mrs Unsworth who has moved into our Quality Teaching Lead position for 2024. Halana brings extensive teaching and leadership experience to this position. She has particular expertise in Early Childhood Education, LiL and Pre-Kinder programs. Halana will commence in her role this Monday 19th February.
Thank you to parents who have supported our focus on road safety for students around our school. We had witnessed unsafe behaviour by students crossing Bridge Street, including failing to use the pedestrian crossing. Please continue to remind your children about the importance of using the crossing and stopping to look both ways for cars.
We are really excited about the development of Outdoor Education programs in the secondary school. Mr Martin and Mrs Lowe have commenced teaching the skills needed for students to participate safely and successfully and planned a series of exciting excursions to challenge and engage our students. We will be announcing camps dates and locations for upper primary and secondary students shortly. The aim of our camps is to develop a sense of community, resilience and pride in achievement. With similar goals in mind, our secondary students attended seminars in study skills this week. Skills developed included time management, reading texts for understanding and note taking.
NAPLAN testing commences on for Year 3, 5 7 and 9 students on March 13. Our staff will support students to prepare by orienting them to the test format and developing skills in comprehension and responding to questions. If you wish to support your child to practice at home, you can access practice questions on the NAPLAN public demonstration site. NAP - Public demonstration site
We have started the year with excellent attendance in all grades, every school day is vital and it is important that students attend each day unless they are unwell.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your child’s education, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind Regards
Mike
Welcome back! Let’s make every day count.
Here we go, another exciting school year ahead! We hope you enjoyed your holidays.
By showing up to school every day, your child will have the best opportunity at a bright future. It gives them every chance to be around friends, learn new things, and find interests.
Good attendance habits can sometimes be hard to stick. But creating a solid routine, from the start of Term 1, can set your child up for success for the year ahead.
If you are looking for tips on how to create better attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website.
Please always talk to us if you are having trouble getting your child to school. We are here to help.

SAFEGUARDING TRAINING IN OUR SCHOOLS
We all have a role to play in keeping children and young people safe.
This year, there is important training that anyone who works with children or young people must complete. This includes all our volunteers, including parent help, and service providers.
The training is compulsory under new laws designed to better safeguard children and young people in Tasmania.
It will help you understand what to do if you believe a child or young person is or may be being harmed, and to make sure you are doing all you can to prevent this from happening. The training will also tell you what you must report under the new laws.
This simple, online training must be done as soon as possible, and you will need to complete it before you work with any children and young people this year.
Once completed, you will receive a certificate, which you can save to be presented to the office when signing in.
To complete your training, simply visit Safeguarding Training.
Thank you for leading the way in caring for our children and young people safe so that they can focus on living bright lives with positive futures.
Nic Bowerman
